The terrace
Nothing needs doing.
It's mid-afternoon at the villa and nothing needs doing. The tiles have been soaking up sun since morning, the trellis is just barely holding its own against the bougainvillea, and past the cliffs the sea has settled into that dense afternoon blue that makes every white wall whiter. Someone's set a spritz down on the table — orange, ice, the glass already sweating.

The garden
The garden gets to work.
The scent starts where the drink does: bright lemon over something salty and airy, cutting through the heat like it was invited. Behind it the garden gets to work — figs ripening against a stone wall, herbs gone sweet in the sun, a thin drift of incense from the chapel further down the hill.

Still here
It doesn't end so much as slow down.
As the afternoon stretches out, Spritz settles into the warmth it came from — sun-baked stone, cypress dark against all that white, heat you can lean back into. It doesn't end so much as slow down, the way the best afternoons of a holiday do.
